Exploring Texture in Knitting with the Majestic Moraine Pattern and Malabrigo Noventa Yarn

My current knitting obsession is texture, so when it came time to choose a pattern for my new Malabrigo Noventa yarn from WEBS – America’s Yarn Store, I knew exactly what I was looking for! I started my search on Ravelry, and came across the Majestic Moraine pattern by Aimée Hansen.

Changing Yarn Weight

While the pattern calls for worsted weight yarn, I was inspired by a knitter who had successfully used bulky yarn. She generously shared her needle size and cast on count, which gave me a starting point. I decided to give it a try, starting with US size 11 needles and casting on 96 stitches. However, I quickly realized that the knitting was too tight and switched to larger US size 15 needles for the patterned section before returning to US size 11 needles for the final ribbing and cast off.

Needle Size Changes for Next TIme

Overall, I’m really happy with the final project. The German Twisted Cast On, which has become my go-to cast on method, worked well and I love the variations of colors in the Malabrigo Noventa yarn. The texture of the pattern really shows off the yarn beautifully, although I think I might use US size 13 needles instead of US size 15 if I were to make this project again.

If you’re looking to try out some new textured knitting techniques, I highly recommend giving the Majestic Moraine pattern a try.
