Sifting Through the Noise: How To Find the Best Online Knitting Tutorials

Look for quality resources

The gift and curse of the internet is the volume of content. Here are some of the best websites and YouTube channels. Spend a few minutes on each one to find the style that resonates with you:

Watch and compare

Watch Stacey from Very Pink Knits explain the knit stitch. Notice that the video is short and concise. She has clear audio and multiple cameras, which allow you to see her hands knitting without losing the overall view.

Tin Can Knits offers its own “Learn to Knit” series. Each video begins with a diagram that explains the stitch, followed by a demonstration of the actual work being done.

Purl Soho offers a longer video that incorporates multiple steps. To help you compare and contrast explanations of the Knit Stitch, I am including a short clip (5:16 – 8:52) from their “Learn to Knit” tutorial. Note that this video provides additional details on how to turn your work while ensuring that the working yarn is held in the correct position.

Pause and Ponder

Did you feel a connection with any of the content creators you visited today? Was there a personality in particular that resonated with you?
What are some challenges you might face when learning knitting through online tutorials, and how can you overcome them?
